Lockdown and the German Language

As we enter lockdown 2.0 for six weeks, we must remember some strategies to help us survive and thrive at this time.

Exercise, connecting with each other (virtually for now), and learning something new are just some ways you can improve and maintain your wellbeing.

According to Mental Health Ireland, learning something new or rediscovering an old interest will improve your wellbeing, help you cope with the stresses of life and make you feel good.

The first lockdown in March saw an increase in students attending our German online beginner classes where they got to reignite their love of the German language, or learn for the first time, connect with people online, while stimulating their mind. Many of our students began their German language journey in March and now at intermediate or advanced levels, and continue to study with us to this day.

Why learn German?

  • Improve brain health by working the muscle to retain information that is new to it. Exercise your mind to memorise new words and phrases that will strengthen cognitive performance, and improve attention span. By putting your attention to something worthwhile and beneficial, you are distracting yourself from the current pandemic, and allowing your mind to be free in a safe environment. Our classes are two hours long, once per week, but don’t worry we give our students homework and additional material each week, and encourage you to read some German books, watch some German shows on Netflix and listen to German music and podcasts, so the hours add up.

  • We love to teach German, and our native German teachers are passionate about sharing our beautiful language with Ireland and its people. We are German teachers but also your biggest cheerleaders and support when learning. We endeavor to enhance our students' learning capabilities, and adapt our teachings to suit everyone's needs. We have weekly catch ups with all our students, and are always on hand via phone or email to answer any questions you have. As our classes are small, we have more time to connect with students and understand their goals with the language and how we can best serve them.

Our next German beginner class starts on Wednesday October 28th, with another starting the following week on Tuesday November 3rd. Check our timetable for our next German courses. We have a 5% discount for all new students, just use the code GERMANMIND at checkout.

If you have any questions on our courses or timetable, please email us info@germanmind.ie.

Remember we are in this together, we can survive and thrive for the next few weeks.

Vielen Dank!
