Never Miss Your Progress: Why GermanMind Offers Free Substitute Classes

When I founded GermanMind, I wanted to create the kind of German language school I would have wanted to attend myself. A place where students feel supported, encouraged and genuinely looked after throughout their learning journey.
One of the ways we do this is by offering free substitute classes (subject to availability) to our group course students. People are often surprised when they hear this, and they ask why we do it.
The answer is actually quite simple.
Life happens.
Sometimes work runs late. Sometimes you're away on holiday. Sometimes family commitments get in the way. Missing a class doesn't mean you've lost your motivation to learn German - it simply means that life got busy for a week.
At GermanMind, we don't believe that one missed lesson should automatically mean falling behind. Whenever possible, we'll invite you to join another class covering the same module so you can continue your course with confidence.
Of course, this depends on availability, but if we can make it work, we're always happy to do so.
Behind the scenes

Offering free substitute classes sounds simple, but in reality it requires a great deal of organisation.
Our team carefully checks that the lesson content matches, that there is space in another class and that students join at exactly the right point in the course. It takes time, planning and flexibility from both our teachers and our office team.
It's certainly easier not to offer substitute classes at all.
But we've always believed that supporting our students is worth the extra effort.
Inspired by Your Feedback
Over the past year, I've received some lovely messages from students who told us how much they appreciated our free substitute classes and discounted catch-up lessons. It's always wonderful to hear that these small gestures can make learning German feel a little less stressful and a lot more manageable.
Learning German should fit around real life
Over the years, I've met hundreds of students with busy careers, young families, shift work, business trips and changing schedules.
The one thing they all have in common is that they're making an effort to learn German alongside everything else in their lives. I think that deserves support.
Our free substitute classes are one small way of recognising that commitment.
If there isn't a suitable substitute class
Sometimes there simply isn't another class covering the same lesson during your course.
In those cases, we also offer heavily discounted one-to-one catch-up lessons for our group course students, giving them the opportunity to cover the missed material with one of our teachers before returning to class.
Our philosophy
At GermanMind, we want learning German to feel challenging, but never discouraging.
Every decision we make is guided by one question:
"Will this help our students succeed?"
For us, free substitute classes are one of the answers.
They're not something we have to offer.
They're something we're genuinely happy to offer whenever we can.
Thank you for being part of the GermanMind community.
