Join our German beginner course! Los geht's!

In our A1.1 German course you will cover two chapters in class per week. Each lesson will have a few themes and you will do reading and listening comprehension, practice writing and speaking and learn key grammar concepts related to these topics. Therefore you will be practicing the most important elements of language learning each week and pick up useful vocabulary and phrases while doing so.


The themes of the first lesson are greetings and professions. You will be able to greet people, ask people how they are feeling, introduce yourself and others, say where you are from, ask somebody to repeat something and talk about your profession and personal details by the end of the first lesson. You will learn the alphabet in German. You will also practice your comprehension skills with a business card and an internet profile. You will learn how to conjugate regular verbs in the present tense and two irregular verbs haben (to have) and sein (to be), sentence structure, question words, useful prepositions and the negative form. By the end of the lesson you will be able to write a short text in German about yourself.


The second lesson focuses on family and shopping. You will learn how to speak about your family and your language skills, how to ask the price of a product, how to offer help and how to express your opinion of a product. The reading comprehension is in the form of a screenplay excerpt. The listening comprehension is about offering help. You will learn the possessive articles: "mein" and "dein", how to form yes and no questions, questions with question words and statements, how to use "doch", how to conjugate verbs with vowel changes such as "sprechen", definite articles in the nominative case, and how to use personal pronouns.

The topics of the third lesson are work and products. You will learn how to ask what something means, ask for something to be repeated, to describe something, to thank people and react to being thanked and to have a telephone call. The reading comprehensions are in the form of an email, product information and a message. The listening comprehension is in the form of a telephone call. You will learn how to use indefinite and negative articles, articles in singular and plural, nouns in singular and plural and nouns which take the accusative case. By the end of the lesson you will be able to fill out a form in German.

The fourth lesson is the halfway point of the course! The main themes are free time, compliments and appointments. You will learn how to make a compliment, talk about your abilities, talk about your hobbies, ask for something, thank somebody, make plans, ask what time it is, make a suggestion and respond to a suggestion. You will do a listening comprehension about leisure activities, as well as a reading comprehension in the form of a text message. You will learn about modal verbs and how to use them, temporal prepositions and verb position in sentences . By the end of the lesson you will know how to write an invitation and a cancellation.

By the end of the fifth lesson you will be able to talk about your eating habits, have a conversation over dinner, ask questions in the train station and end a phone call. The themes of the lesson are food, invitations, travel and means of transport. You will do listening comprehensions which discuss food preferences and another is in the form of an announcement. You will do a reading comprehension in the form of a comic. You will be able to conjugate modal verbs and their structure, know how compound words work and how to use separable verbs.

The final lesson focuses on daily routines, the past and celebrations. You will be able to speak about the past, festivals, and travelling. You will be able to read a calendar, an email and an informative text. The listening comprehension will be an interview. You will learn how to use more temporal prepositions, to form the past perfect tense using "haben" and how to use it in sentences. By the end of the lesson you will be able to write about your daily routine.
